July brings a sizeable jump in air service at Tampa International Airport. For the month, airlines are poised to add more than 3,400 flights in and out of TPA, significantly increasing service to existing destinations and reestablishing service to several cities that had been served prior to the pandemic.
“This new service signals the industry’s confidence in the Tampa Bay market. We hope more routes will resume when the time is right, as they have a major economic impact on our region,” said Executive Vice President of Marketing Chris Minner said. “In the meantime, we continue working with each of our airlines to ensure passengers see the steps we’ve taken to protect their health and safety.”
In all, TPA is expecting to handle 8,700 total flights for the month for an average of about 280 flights per day. This is a significant jump from June, which saw about 175 flights per day, but is well below the average of 506 daily operations from the same period in 2019.
The new service includes new flights to popular destinations, such as Salt Lake City and Nassau, Bahamas – the first international flight to return to TPA since March. Silver Airlines resumes nonstop flights to the Bahamian capital three times a week, starting July 2.
While passenger numbers are expected to be down from previous years this July 4th holiday weekend, those who are traveling can expect to see our TPA Ready safety measures throughout the Airport, including:
- Frequent cleaning and sanitizing
- Thousands of acrylic barriers and social distancing markers
- Blocked seating in gate hold areas to promote social distancing
- All employees wearing masks (the City of Tampa also requires passengers to wear masks, with some exceptions)
