Walking Around: Disney’s Old Key West Resort

The first of the Disney Vacation Club properties at Walt Disney World, Old Key West Resort is an idyllic version of the real town at the southern end of Florida. The resort is set in the fictional town of Conch Flats.

Guests arriving at Old Key West will first come to the main building, which includes this beautiful portico and covered walkway out to the dock for ferry service to Disney Springs.

A well appointed lobby with check-in and concierge desks is located here, with a seating area adjacent. Keeping with the nautical theme that is present throughout the resort, a model of one of the Disney Cruise Line ships is on display.

The Conch Flats General Store serves as both a stop for souvenirs and for food and other sundries for guests to enjoy in their suites.

Olivia’s Cafe is the full service restaurant at the resort, and welcomes guests as if they are family, with pictures of past guests enjoying their vacations at Walt Disney World lining the walls.

A variety of things to do are available for guests staying at Old Key West Resort, including bike rentals and games.

No resort in Florida is complete without a swimming pool, and the main pool at the resort doesn’t disappoint. A replica lighthouse, which houses a small sauna, watches over the pool and nearby waterway.

The guest buildings around the grounds show Key West influences, with pastel colors and Victorian inspired touches. A number of the buildings have views of the golf course that runs through the resort.

Like all the Disney resorts, Old Key West has a number of theming details that are worth a look, but do require you to slow down to take them in.
